After 17 years at Microsoft, Xbox Live creator Boyd Multerer said today that he is moving on “to do something new.”
Multerer announced his decision on Twitter. “Goodbye Microsoft,” he tweeted. “It was a good run. Xbox was Great! Time to do something new.”

Multerer, hailed by Microsoft as “Xbox’s father of invention,” helped lead the development and rollout of the Xbox Live online service in the early 2000s. He also created the XNA video game programming language.
More recently, the Microsoft vet was director of development for Xbox, and helped build three different operating systems into the Xbox One so to allow quick switching between games and apps.
Multerer joins a handful of other Xbox executives that have left Microsoft in the past few years, including Don Mattrick, Marc Whitten, Nancy Tellem, Jordan Levin, and Ben Smith.
