Microsoft just unveiled its Surface Pro 4 tablet at a press event in New York City, aiming to stay ahead of Apple in the emerging class of tablets that double as notebook computers.

The new Microsoft machine features a faster processor, redesigned TypeCover keyboard cover, up to 1 terabyte of storage, and 16GB of RAM. It also offers a new pen (in multiple colors) that’s magnetized to attach to the edge of the tablet. It features Windows Hello biometric login, as well.

The display is 12.3 inches, 5 million pixel, 267 PPI. Microsoft is calling this its “PixelSense” technology.

Surface Pro 4 starts at $899 and will be available on Oct. 26, the company says.

Microsoft says the trackpad on the new TypeCover is larger, and the keys are more comfortable to use.

Here’s a Microsoft video with a first look at the device.

The unveiling comes a few weeks after Apple announced the new iPad Pro, with a keyboard and digital pen, jumping into a market where Microsoft has been gaining traction.
