Perhaps you’ve reached the age where heading out for live music — or heading out for live music featuring the Smashing Pumpkins — just isn’t a viable option on a Friday night. The longtime band, promoters Live Nation and Twitter tried to give you a little help with that with a historic live stream from Seattle.
Smashing Pumpkins, the Chicago-based alternative rock band who rose to prominence during the early and mid-1990s, made a stop at KeyArena as part of their current North American tour — its first as a reunited band in nearly 20 years.
The concert was live streamed for free on Twitter as part of the Live Nation Concert series starting at about 8:15 p.m. Friday night, and it didn’t take much time for the hashtag #TheSmashingPumpkinsLive to become a top trend around the globe.
Tweets throughout the night Friday and into Saturday morning expressed the glee fans felt in a.) being able to see the Pumpkins play together again and b.) being able to see them play from the comfort of home. The live stream was very well received, especially by sleepy fans who stumbled across it outside outside of the Pacific time zone.
