A rare snowstorm hit the Seattle area Sunday night and into Monday morning. As temperatures fell and a brisk wind made it feel even colder outside, the internet did its job by warming us with images and videos from across the region.
As cars slipped and crunched on roadways throughout Western Washington, the driest drive in town was clearly Seattle’s new SR 99 tunnel, which officially opened to traffic in time for Monday morning’s commute.
But it wasn’t much of a commute, as plenty of people wisely opted to stay off roads and work from home if they were able to.

Queen Anne is a notoriously difficult neighborhood to navigate when snow does fall in Seattle. Seattle’s Lime Bikes would be tough to ride on a day like Monday, but someone found a use for them:

And Queen Anne Avenue North always attracts daredevils on sleds, but we’re not sure if this looks fun or dumb or a mix of both, but it’s one way to get around:

This video shared by the Washington State Department of Transportation was decidedly more scary:

Nothing quite says “New Seattle” like a sports car ditched on a snowy street, blocking the way of a Rolls Royce:

Even the Stormtroopers got stuck — at least it appears that way in this clever bit of Photoshop:

Empty streets and a dusting of snow can make for a pretty picture. There were plenty on Instagram under the hashtag #seattlesnow:

Football and the Super Bowl are in the rear view mirror. Seattle’s soon-to-be NHL team tweeted about the weather, which does make the city look like a real hockey town:

But the Mariners were already thinking about warmer temperatures and baseball.
