Hundreds of middle-school and high-school students will gather at Seattle’s Museum of Flight on Monday to chat with NASA astronaut Jessica Meir on the International Space Station while the world watches on the Web.
- The Earth-to-space video call is due to start at 9:55 a.m. PT and last 20 minutes. You can tune in via NASA TV or the Microsoft Education Downlink Website, or watch the downlink on monitors set up next to the museum’s Great Gallery. There’ll also be hands-on, space-related activities at the museum for kids and their families.
- One subject that’s sure to come up during the chat is the Astro Socks Design Challenge. That project, organized by Microsoft Education and NASA STEM on Station, enlisted students to design prototype zero-G footwear for astronauts.
- Meir, who began her stint on the space station last September, isn’t the only person with spaceflight experience who’ll be involved in the chat. Retired NASA astronaut Dottie Metcalf-Lindenburger, who lives in the Seattle area, will be on hand at the museum on Monday.
