Next gen battery materials manufacturer Group14 announced a deal Monday with German battery cell company CustomCells, which will purchase $300 million worth of Group14’s silicon anode product.

  • CustomCells will incorporate Group14’s product, called SCC55, into its battery cells to enhance their performance. The company is producing batteries for electric vehicles, aviation and “e-mobility.”
  • Group14 and CustomCells have been partners since 2020, and the latter has been producing prototype cells using SCC55 for testing with its customers.
  • Group14 is based north of Seattle in Woodinville, Wash., and is building a manufacturing facility in Eastern Washington’s Moses Lake that is slated to open later this year. It also operates a joint factory with SK in South Korea.
  • CustomCells is looking to establish a U.S. factory.
