Zonar Systems, a Seattle-based company that provides electronic fleet inspection and tracking systems for public and private fleets, laid off 57 positions this week.
A Zonar representative confirmed the layoffs to GeekWire.
Zonar employs more than 300 people across North America.
The company, founded in 2001, provides GPS and telematics hardware and software solutions for fleets across a variety of industries such as construction, transportation and the utility industry. The idea is to use hardware and software to help fleet operators save money on fuel, improve maintenance, and increase safety.
Continental acquired a majority stake in Zonar in 2016. The German conglomerate announced earlier this month that it is considering spinning off its automotive business.
“As Zonar and its parent division, Continental Automotive, adapt and respond to the dynamic needs of the global automotive industry, all lines of business across the organization are under review,” Zonar CEO Michael Gould said in a statement to GeekWire. “Recently, Continental Automotive leadership announced a restructuring effort and as part of that, has changed its focus on several projects Zonar supports. The business and markets Zonar serves remain unchanged.”
Gould, a veteran of Oracle and Hewlett-Packard, was named CEO last year.
